Butterfly Walk

Community Science Butterfly Walk | July 9, 2022| 1:00pm – 2:00pm | Kinnickinnic River Trail North ( We will meet at Harbor View Plaza and take an urban hike to the trail).

Learn the basics of how to ID butterflies and conduct a butterfly survey. Participants will also learn how to use a butterfly field guide. Meet our Environmental Director and our summer interns working on surveying all kinds of bugs around the Harbor District.

Bembe Drum and Dance Bombazo en la Plaza

Bembe Drum and Dance Bombazo en la Plaza | July 10th | 1:00pm | Harbor View Plaza (600 E. Greenfield avenue)

A Bombazo is a music tradition that uses bomba, an Afro-Puerto Rican style of music as a form of artistic expression from the Milwaukee and Chicago area. Bembe Drum and Dance will be performing in front of the beautiful back drop of the Milwaukee River and will be sure to get the audience up and dancing.

Join Circulate MKE for a day of shopping at Harbor View Plaza. The Creative Entrepreneur Market allows shoppers and vendors the chance to directly support a wide variety of communities and cultures. By organizing local entrepreneurs and artists to sell their crafts, food, and unique goods in a family friendly marketplace they have helped create new opportunities for partnerships and startups.

Open Pitch Competition

Harbor District Open Pitch Competition | July 24, 2022| 6:00pm – 8:00pm | Harbor View Plaza (600 E. Greenfield Avenue)

Groups from all over Milwaukee County will compete for your vote to host an event at Harbor View Plaza during the Spring or Summer event series. Hear each groups 3 minute presentation about their event and why it would bring people to the Harbor District. The community will vote on their favorite event and winners will receive a honorarium and a spot in our summer event series at Harbor View Plaza.

Schlitz Audubon Nature Day

Schlitz Audubon Nature Day – September 4th | 1pm – 3pm| Harbor View Plaza (600 E. Greenfield avenue)

Join the Harbor District and the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center for an afternoon of exploration and animal encounters. Join the naturalists for a Reptile and Amphibian presentation followed by a meet and greet with the animals. 

1pm – 2pm: Reptile and Amphibian Presentation with Schlitz Audubon Naturalists

2pm -3pm: Meet and greet with the animals

Harbor Fest

Harbor Fest returns, featuring sturgeon fest and the Milwaukee boat parade

WHAT: HARBOR FEST
WHEN: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25TH FROM 11 AM – 4 PM
WHERE: 600 BLOCK OF EAST GREENFIELD AVENUE IN THE HARBOR DISTRICT

Join Harbor District Milwaukee, Milwaukee Riverkeeper, and Riveredge Nature Center at Harbor Fest for another year of family fun celebrating all things fish, water, and boats! Harbor Fest will take place on Sunday, September 25, 2022 from 11am -4pm in front of UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences (600 E. Greenfield Avenue). 

Attendees can:

Release a baby sturgeon with Riveredge Nature Center
– 12:00pm Sturgeon Blessing by Richard Gonzalez
– 12:30pm – 2:00pm Sturgeon Release

Watch the 6th Annual Milwaukee Riverkeeper Boat Parade
– 12:30pm Fourteen one-of-a-kind art installations float begin a parade along the Milwaukee RIver from Harbor Fest to
   Lakefront brewery. 

Participate in all of the Harbor Fest fun
– Performances by Pulpa de Guayaba and Caché
– Free boat tours of the Inner Harbor from 1:00pm – 4:00pm. 
– A children’s Makers Tent with hand-on activities
– Fishing lessons with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources
– Doors Open Milwaukee Tours of the UWM School of Freshwater Sciences, and Komatsu’s Experience Center
– Local food and vendors
– Learn a lot from the many organizations that will be hosting a booth!

Getting to Harbor Fest

Harbor Fest is taking place at the east end of Greenfield Avenue in front of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences (SFS) along Milwaukee’s harbor waterfront.

Via Car
If coming from I-43/I-94, the nearest exit is at Lapham Boulevard/Mitchell Street (Exit 312A).  Parking is available on city streets west of the Harbor Fest grounds or in several parking lots provided by Rockwell Automation and shown on the map below.  All vehicles must park to the west of the railroad bridge on Greenfield Avenue and walk to the Harbor Fest grounds via Greenfield Avenue.

Via Public Transit
Harbor Fest is served by several Milwaukee County Transit System bus lines including the Green Line, route #15, and route #56 which all stop at 1st & Greenfield.  For current information visit RideMCTS.com.

Via Bicycle or On Foot
South 2nd St is the closest street with an on-street bicycle lane.  The KK River Trail is an off-street paved bicycle path that will leave you at the corner of E Washington St and S Barclay, a few blocks north of the SFS.  From 1st & Greenfield go east under the railroad tracks and Harbor Fest is in front of you.
