DNR Fishing Clinics

LEARN how TO FISH WITH THE Department of Natural Resources and the Harbor District

Join the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources FREE Fishing Clinics in partnership with the Milwaukee Harbor District. In 2023, the Harbor District coordinated seven fishing clinics that were held Sunday evenings from 4p.m. – 7p.m. A great opportunity to teach kids how to fish!

Wild Bearies

Wild bearies planting workshop

Join Wild Bearies for an interactive planting workshop at the Harbor View Plaza (600 E Greenfield Avenue) on June 10 from 3:30-5:30pm. 
 
Participants will learn how the lunar cycles affect the growth of native flowers and take home an Anise Hyssop seedling. All supplies are included.

Indigenous Elegance

Indigenous Elegance: A Celebration of Culture and Identity, Fashion Show featuring Indigenous fashion designer Sabrina Lombardo, founder of Native Nation Designs. This is a free, family-friendly event open to the public taking place June 14 at the Harbor View Plaza (600 E Greenfield Ave) from 5 to 8 p.m.

The event will be open to the public starting at 5 p.m., and the fashion show will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. Seating will be first come, first serve, so be there early to snag a spot. After all seats are filled there will be standing room only. This is an outdoor venue, so please remember sunscreen and / or umbrellas for sun protection!

This showcase will feature one of a kind Native Nation Designs garments and accessories that aim to uplift and highlight Indigenous culture and voices in Milwaukee. The fashion show, however, isn’t the only thing to look forward to!You will be able to purchase goods from Indigenous vendors and food from local vendors while enjoying music from cumbia DJ artists Ambulante Y Clandestino!

We look forward to honoring and celebrating the diverse Indigenous cultures in our city with the Harbor District Milwaukee’s first ever fashion show! Joy Engine is proud to sponsor this event through our 2024 Community Challenge Grant!

Summer En La Plaza

Thank you for a wonderful 2024 Summer en la plaza season

In 2024, the Harbor District BID 51 awarded $9K to local organizations, artists and community members to host a free family-friendly event at the Harbor View Plaza (600 East Greenfield Avenue). These community-focused events bring people to place, creating a safe environment for all who join.

Harbor Fest

Save the Date for harbor fest 2025

Mark your calendars for Harbor Fest 2025 on Sunday, September 28th! 

Join us at Harbor Fest, a day where more than 4,500 people celebrate Milwaukee’s Inner Harbor and all the things that make it great. 

At Harbor Fest you can release a baby sturgeon, tour UWM’s School of Freshwater Sciences, or spend hours doing other fun stuff all along the water. Take a free boat ride on the Inner Harbor, listen to great music, check out cool things happening in the Harbor District. Kids will love our bounce house, rock climbing wall, makers space, STEAM stage, and face painter! All for FREE!

UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences Tour

Explore the UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences building, open for Doors Open Milwaukee, while scientists share examples of their work including a look at the research vessel – Neeskay, fish ecology, nutrition and aquaculture; beach health; water chemistry; invasive species; weather; and climate science. 

Pounce the UWM Mascot will be available for pictures and high fives.
